After John died Edith remarried. According to Cathi Bulone Campbell, John died "as the result of an accidental drowning in Port Huron, Michigan, on July 8th, 1918. He was 41 years old... When he died, the Kerrs had been married for 21 years. By 1920, widowed Edith had relocated to Superior St. in Port Huron where Fred was an office clerk with the railroad and Isabelle was a stenographer for the railroad office." John's death record indicates accidental drowning in St. Clair River.
