Name: Ananias K. Rockwood
Birth: 18 JUL 1837 in Crosby, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada
Death: 1 FEB 1915 in Hudson, Lenawee Co., Mich.

Note: Ananias was living with his parents in Sanilac Co., Mich., in 1860, and had immigrated to the U.S. with them about 1851. He joined Co. D, 10th Mich. Infantry (the same company in which his brother, Elijah, served) in Feb 1862 and fought in Tennessee and Mississippi during the Civil War. He was discharged as a corporal. His military records describe him as 6'2" with brown hair and blue eyes. He served as a nurse and ambulance driver for the division hospital in Kentucky, but was disabled much of the time during and after the war due to a near-drowning accident shortly after enlistment. A few months after his discharge in Aug 1865 he married and they settled on a 20 acre farm in Ogden Twp. where they lived for the next 30 years (Anvernette's parents lived in Ogden Twp., and they were originally from Leeds Co., Ontario, like Ananias). The 1900 census lists them as having had 4 children with all living at that time. Anvernette died of typhoid fever in 1903 just 2 weeks after her son, George, died of the same disease. In 1910 Ananias was staying with his sister, Cynthia, in Sanilac Co. Ananias died at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth, at Hudson in Lenawee Co. and was buried in Zion Cemetery.|
