Íñigo II Garcés was the eldest son of García II of Pamplona by his first w ife, Oneca Rebelle de Sangüesa. His father was the co- or sub-king until h is death in 882 and regent for Fortún Garcés until the latter's return fr om captivity in 880. Íñigo probably co-ruled as successor to his father, a nd appears with the royal title in the Códice de Roda. He may also have be en regent later in the reign of Fortún. The death in battle of one son a nd exile of the others has led to the supposition that Íñigo may have supp orted Fortún against the successful coup which put his half-brother Sanc ho on the throne in 905.
