    Svafrlami was in the H and U version of the Hervarar saga the son of Sigrl ami who was the son of Odin. In the R version, Svafrlami is called Sigrla mi and his parentage is not given.
    Svafrlami was the king of Gardariki and the first owner of the magic swo rd Tyrfing.
    One day, he was hunting on his horse and discovered two Dwarves near a lar ge stone. He bound them by swinging his sword above them so they could n ot disappear. The Dwarves who were named Dvalin and Durin asked if they co uld buy themselves free and undertook to make a magic sword. The sword wou ld neither break, nor rust and it would cut through iron and stone as easi ly as through cloth and it would always give victory.
    The day when Svafrlami acquired the weapon, he saw that it was a exquisi te and beautiful weapon and it was named Tyrfing. However, before disappea ring into the rock, the Dwarves cursed the weapon so that it would nev er be unsheathed without killing a man, that it would be the undoing of Sv arflami and cause three evil deeds.
    One day, Svafrlami met the Beserker Arngrim. According to the H and U vers ions, they started to fight. Tyrfing cut through Arngrim's shield and do wn into the soil, whereupon Arngrim cut off Svarfrlami's hand, took Tyrfi ng and slew him. Arngrim then forced Svafrlami's daughter Eyfura to mar ry him. According to the R version, Arngrim became the war-chief of the ag ed king and was given both Tyrfing and Eyfura as rewards.
