From Havelock Standard 3rd April 1919: "Mr. and Mrs. Thomas WRIGHT announce the engagement of their daughter, Ercell Mabel, to Mr. Melville A. DAFOE, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. DAFOE of Belmont. The marriage to take place quietly this month." . From the Havelock Standard 10th April 1919: "Wedding Bells. Miss Ercell Mable, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas WRIGHT of town, and Mr. Melville Austin DAFOE of Belmont, were united in marriage on Monday afternoon of this week, Rev. James SKENE performing the ceremony at the Knox Church manse. The young couple left on the afternoon express for a wedding trip to Hamilton and other points, and on their return will reside at the groom's farm on the Cordova road. The heartiest felicitations are extended the happy pair by a host of friends." . From Havelock Standard 17th April 1919: "The Young People of Knox Church assembled at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas WRIGHT, on Monday evening and presented Mr. and Mrs. Melville DAFOE with two handsome leather rockers and an address. Miss Jean WHITE read the address and Messrs. William COPP and Donald PLUNKETT presented the gifts of esteem. Afterwards, refreshments were served and a special social time spent." . From Havelock Standard 1st May 1919: "Address and Kitchen Shower. Mr. and Mrs. Melville DAFOE Honoured. The friends and neighbours of Mr. and Mrs. Melville DAFOE of Belmont assembled at their residence on the evening of the 17th ult. and showered the newly married couple with kitchen utensils of all kinds and presented them with the following address: Mr. and Mrs. DAFOE: ... great pleasure ... welcome you to the neighbourhood .. your lives may be ever characteristic of strong moral principle ... find in each one of us a true and faithful friend ... mark of our goodwill ... prosper in your new home ...". . Funeral Card: "Entered into Rest. Suddenly at Civic Hospital, Peterborough, on Thursday, July 4, 1968. Ercell Mabel DAFOE, beloved wife of Melville DAFOE. In her 71st year. Resting at the B.A. Curtis Funeral Home, Havelock. Funeral services will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 8, 1968 at 2 p.m. Rev. John NEILSON officiating. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery. Casket will be open at the Church from Monday noon until time of service." . From Havelock Standard 10th July 1968: "Mrs. Melville DAFOE. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Melville DAFOE were held from the Curtis Funeral Home to Knox Presbyterian Church on Monday afternoon and were conducted by the Rev. John NEILSON. Interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery. The late Mrs. DAFOE, formerly Ercell WRIGHT, was a daughter of the late Thomas WRIGHT and Ida GLYNN and was born in Havelock. She passed away in the Civic Hospital, Peterborough on Thursday shortly after being admitted. She was in her 71st year. She was educated in Havelock and after her marriage to Melville DAFOE had resided in Havelock and Belmont Township during her entire life. In religion, she was a Presbyterian and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides her husband, are five daughters (Ferne [sic]) Mrs. Earle STOCKDALE, Indian River, (Doris) Mrs. Allan GARDNER, Norwood, Eva, Cobourg, (Joan) Mrs. Alfred COOPER, Havelock, and (Jeanette [sic]) Mrs. Neil CLARKE [sic], Keene and one son, Glenn of R.R. 2, Norwood, one sister, Mrs. Angus CLARKE (Dorothy), Burwash, and three brothers, Robert and Donald, both of Toronto, and Dougal, Levack. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren." [Ercell died after a bad asthma attack.]
