Left home, May-June, 1912, in his twenties and no one knows what
happened to him, last heard from him in Avila, CA. Oldest child, in his
late teens wen t to San Francisco. and later to Avila, CA. He wrote to
his family frequent ly the last letter being Feb. 1911. Thought perhaps
he met with foul play, as they never heard from him again...altho a
friend, JB Simonson said he mov ed to a nearby town of San Luis Obispo,
    California
by Helen Ruth Pierce Gall oway:
John Francis left home when a young man and never did return. After WWI,
an unsuccessful concerted effort was made to locate him. Aunt Edna was
pos itive he came to the CLARKE Furniture Store in Vandalia during the
depression . A man came up to her while she was playing the piano and
said be used to know her, but was then a bum. "Bums" had a difference
context in those days , but he was not located.
