  • Note:
    Burnell (Bill) Cline came to Alberta with his father Levi and brothers Virgil and Raymond. They came by train from Iowa 1903 via North Portal, Sask. to Alberta, bringing with them cattle and supplies. Homestead land was acquired 1904 in the Innisfail area. A quarter section each for Levi (used George as Christian name), Burnell, Virgil and Raymond. All are listed in 1906 Census Raven, Strathcona Dist. Alberta.
    Virgil did not stay in Canada, Raymond died in Alberta, buried in Sac City, Iowa, Levi did not stay in Alberta returned to Sac City. Burnell (Bill) spent a winter alone on his homestead and decided to sell and move into Innisfail. Burnell (Bill) became a Naturalized Canadian citizen July 20, 1907. (listed on Land papers)

    He met and married Vida Myers in Innisfail in 1907. He worked in the lumber industry, some farming and hotel work in Alberta. The family was not listed in the 1911 Census of Alberta. In Jan. 1915 the family of Burnell, Vida, Leroy and Ernest crossed the border to the US At the North Portal crossing in Saskatchewan destination listed as Kansas but the settled in to City, Iowa and son Clifford was born in Sac City in 1919. 1920 Burnell's occupation is listed as Electrical Contractor, as well he has worked at a Motor Vehicle dealership, as a Truant Officer and also as a foreman of a work crew for a Power Co., installing the Power lines in and around Sac City. The family is in the 1920 Census of Sac City , Iowa recorded in January, 1920. In July 1921 Burnell and son Clifford (American citizens) returned to Canada via North PortaL, Saskatchewan border crossing. As Vida, Ernest and Leroy were born in Canada they would be listed in the Canadian Border Records. The family settled in the Lousana, Alberta area where Bill purchased a farm and also purchased a grocery store, naming it "Bill's Grocery" in Lousana, Alberta.

    Burnell and Vida divorced in the early 1930's and he raised the children in Lousana. About 1945 Burnell moved to Calgary helping his son Clifford with a Service Station on 7th Ave. East "Triton Service" He remained in Calgary until his passing in 1959.
