Military 1812 Award to James Myers@Taycheedah
Very little is known about James Myers. A James Myers served with The Third or Western Regiment during the American Revolution. (As well a Samuel Myer and Michael Myers are listed). Also a James Myers served in the War of 1812 which I believe is a better match. James Myers is listed in the 1840 Census of Bethel, Sullivan Co., N.Y. (On Ancestry under James Ryan, but on reading the Image it is definitely James Myers, eighth person from the top of page, one male 20 - 30, 1 male 50-60, 3 females between 20 - 30, one female between 50 - 60.
A Possible match for James Myers of 1840 Bethel, N.Y. is in the "Index of Awards on Claims of The Soldiers of The War of 1812 a James Myers is listed as receiving an award with Residence in Fond du Lac, WI. In the 1850 Census Taycheedah, Fond du Lac, WI. James Myers age 60 is residing with a George Shoemaker family. The only reference to James Myers was from his grandson Friend W. Myers' Civil War Pension Applicaton. 'My father had a mill in Sullivan Co., N.Y. he was the son of James Myers and both lived in the same county.'
As James' son John P. Myers married Elisabeth Maney in New York and members of the Maney family also moved to Wisconsin about the same time, this could be a possible match for James Myers.
