EASTPORT - Reid L. Wilson, 78, husband of 36 years, to Marilynn (Featherson) Wilson, died peacefully Sunday, April 17, 2005, at his home in Eastport. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly.
Reid was born Feb. 24, 1927 in Eastport, the son of Burton and Blanche (Spear) Wilson.
Reid attended school in Eastport. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Amsterdam from 1944 to 1946. Reid is a legend in the fishing community, having been a commercial fisherman for more than 60 years. He loved tagging fish with Chris Bartlett for the University of Maine. Reid fished along with the Canadian fishermen, and had many friends over there. He enjoyed his visits at Jim Lowe's garage, and his many great times with the crews at the Eastport Chowder House and Happy Crab. Reid also treasured his times with his special friend, Scottie Emery, and his evenings with his two cats, Sas and Bear.
Reid is survived by his wife, Marilynn (Featherson) Wilson; sister, Blanche McNutt; brother, John Wilson; daughters, Blanche Barnes, Sandra Wilson, Elaine Murphy, Belinda Burgess; son, Reid L. Wilson Jr.; grandchildren, Heather Stanhope, Melissa Carver, Alayna McPhail and Ashley Murphy; great-grandchildren, Monica, Jocelyn and Aaron Stanhope, Christina Carver, Kelcea, Jason, Reid, and Drake McPhail; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Flagg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Phelps officiating, interment will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, with Lynn Rutledge officiating.
