ALBERT J. DANA SR.
PETER DANA POINT - Albert J. Dana, 86, left for the spirit world Nov. 19, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 23, 1917, at Peter Dana Point, the son of Peter Lewey and Maria Dana.
Dad lived his life exemplifying kindness, humility, pride, integrity and hard work. He supported his family as a Registered Master Guide, trapper and hunter for more than 50 years. In the winter time he and his special friend, Adam Zeliniski, would feed eagles behind his home where they would sit and watch for hours. He took pride in everything he did. Albert was always thankful to his people for electing him to represent them to the Maine State Legislature as a Representative for two terms. He served as a former Tribal Governor and former council member. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Calais Regional Hospital, the Board of Directors of the Central Maine Indians Association, the Housing Authority of Indian Township and served on the Negotiations Committee of the Maine Indian Settlement Act.
He left to join his wife, Philomene, two daughters, Viola "Buzzy" Brown and Alice Dana; and his two sons, Charlie and Roger "Benny" Dana.
He is survived by his daughters, Colleen and Walter Cummings and Alberta White; his sons, Sam and Sonja of Indian Township, Richard and Patty of Indian Township and John and Deanna of Brewer; many, many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at his home at Peter Dana Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Frank Morin, 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne's R.C. Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in his memory to Down East Hospice, 22 Hospital Lane, Calais, ME 04619 would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Calais.
