    [Note: Martin Klotz was listed as "single" on the 17 June 1792 communican ts list, yet was listed with wife "Cathr." exactly one year later, 16 Ju ne 1793. This pinpoints their marriage date within one year. A Communican ts List of 4 November 1792 shows two "Cathr" listings: Cathr. Krausin a nd Cathr. Sauerin, single -- future research needs to be done to determi ne whether one of these Catherines was the subsequent wife of Martin Klot z, we should also look carefully at the families of the various sponsor s, such as Herschelbom, Bishoff, Vogel or Fogel, Bernhardt, Aker, etc. - e d.]

    Taneytown is in present-day Carroll County, which was formed in 1837 fr om Frederick County. On a present-day map, it is not far directly sou th of Gettysburg, in Adams Co. PA, at the end of Rte. 134.

    By 1810, Martin and his family had moved slightly north to Adams County, P A.
    Cumberland Twp. contains the city of Gettysburg, and is almost directly no rth of Taneytown, Maryland.

    Last Will and Testament of Martin Klotz, Decd.

    The last will and testament of Martin Klotz of Greenfield Township in t he County of Blair and State of Pennsylvania. I, Martin Klotz consideri ng the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind, memo ry & understanding, Blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publ ish this my last will and Testament, in manner and form following (th at is to say) first I give and bequeath unto my son John Klotz five hundr ed dollars and I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary now decd childr en one hundred and three dollars. I then give and bequeath unto my son Dav id Klotz now deceased, to his children, two hundred Dollars, and as my dau ghter Catharine intermarried to John Smith has sold her legacy in my esta te to my son Abraham and give him a release in full, therefore she has not hing coming to her out of my estate real or personal and whereas my said s on Abraham Klotz is now deceased therefore I give and bequeath my plantati on whereon I now dwell, containing about one hundred acres more or less, s ituate in the township and county aforesaid unto the children of my said s on Abraham share and share alike, subject however to the payments of the a bove legacies in this my last Will, the first legacy to my son Jo hn to be paid two years after my decease, the second legacy to be pa id to my Daughter Mary's children to be paid two years after that of the f irst payment, the third legacy to my son David's children to be paid two y ears after that of the second payment making in all six years after my dec ease -- and it is expressly my Will and meaning, that the legacys then ha ve to my son Abraham children shall not be charged with any part of the ra ising and education of the said children but the legacy shall be free to t hem, when they arrive to lawful age or the same can be made out of my re al estate, and I here commit the guardianship of their legacys to my son J ohn Klotz and Philip Pringle who also is the executor of my son and the ir father Abraham Klotz' last will & testament; And lastly I do hereby app oint my son John Klotz and Philip Pringle sole Executors of this my Last W ill and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made, In witne ss I have hereunto set my hand and seal the ninth day of May A.D. one thou sand eight hundred and fifty seven.
