    (11) on Philip II of France, his son. He went on pilgrimage to the Shrine of Thomas Becket to pray for Philip's(Philip I's) recovery and was told that his son had indeed recovered. However, on his way back to Paris. he suffered a stroke. In declining health, Louis VII had Philip crowned and annointed at Rheims by the Archbishop William Whitehands, on 1 November 1179
    (12) June 12, 2010 Lisa Hilton's Queens Consort, 2008, Chapter 5 on Eleanor of Aquitaine, ,page 97," Louis had already been crowned at Reims, according to Capetian tradition, when he became Dauphin in 1131 after the death of his elder brother Philip. Until this point, he had been inteneded for the church, and was greatly influenced by his mentor, Abbot Suger, of St. Denis, Paris, under whose tutelage he had spent his childhood at the abbey of St. Denis. He was not bad looking, and was later described as by John of Salisbury as loving his queen (Eleanor)'almost beyond reason', but his piety often caused him to be torn betwween the conflicting demands of religion and statesmanship, and his reign has been described as a 'along career of energetic ineffectiveness'... Eleanor and Louis were technically third cousins once removed, both being descended from Kign Robert II, but this had clearly not been considered relevant at the time of their bethrothal since no dispensation had been sought from the Pope."
