    John Hoag - born 1643, England or Wales. He died in 1725 or 1728. Hemarried Ebenezer Emery wh o was a daughter of John and Mary Shotwell orShotswell Emery on April 21, 1669 at Newbury, Ma ss. She was born Sept.16, 1648 and died April 28, 1691 or 1694

    Ebenezer Emery, who married John Hoag I, was a Quaker. She was the secondchild of John Emer y and Mary Shotwell Emery. John Emery came to Americafrom Ramsey, England on the ship James a nd landed at Newbury, Mass., in1635. John Emery died on November 3, 1683. The following was t aken fromthe history of Weare, N.H. Page 900. John Hoag was born in England orWales. He cam e to this country with his father's family when about sevenyears of age. The rest of the fami ly soon returned to their originalhome, but John, having been bound out as an apprentice, wa s obliged toremain. He married Ebenezer Emery, a daughter of John Emery of Newbury,Mass., i n 1669; and settled in that town. He was a man of good naturalabilities and is said to have b een first side Judge until the Salem witchcraft broke out when opposing the persecution whic h followed; he lost hisplace and influence with the people. He had four sons and three daught ersand after they had grown up, they all joined the Society of Friends(Quakers). He died in 1 728.

    May 3, 1703, John Hoag, a weaver of Newbury, Mass., a letter ofadministration issued to Jonat han Hoag his brother and son of John I andEbenezer Hoag. Inventory of his estate filed Decemb er 6, 1703, and signedby John Emery, Sr. and Hannanurah Orday and appraised a piece of land a ttwo pounds and ten shillings.
