James left the island and went to Nampa, Idaho where he had a number of Morden cousins. He was living there when he married Cornelia Louise Barnes on 19 September 1899 in Meridian, Idaho. She was born 11 November 1880 in Boyce Valley, Idaho, daughter of Robert Price Barnes and Mary Martin. The marriage record called her Cornelia L. Barnes of Meridian. The knot was tied by Rev. M. H. Mead, Presbyterian minister. B. Frank Morden and Mrs. Eltha Barnes were witnesses.
James remained in Nampa over 10 years but in the end returned toManitou lin Island around 1902 and lived at Barrie Island, Manitoulin, on Concession 4, Lot 9.

DIED - James Morden
On Tuesday, July 2nd, 1946, there passed away at the Mindemoya Red Cross Hospital another of Manitoulin's early pioneers in the person of James Morden in his 80th year.
Mr. Morden was born in Hanover, Ontario, on December 24th, 1867. He came to Barrie Island with his parents of the age of seven years. He spent part of his early life in South Carolina and Idaho. While there he met and married Cornelia Louise Barnes in the year 1898. In 1903 he returned with his wife to Barrie Island where she predeceased him on November 30th, 1912. The following spring he moved to Gordon Township with his family where he resided until two years prior to his death which was spent with his eldest daughter in Silver Water.
He leaves to mourn his loss three daughters; Louise, (Mrs. Earl McGibbon), Silver Water; Marguerite, (Mrs. Truman Wilson), and Marie, (Mrs. William Aelick), of Gordon; two sons Robert of Gore Bay and James of Little Current; two sisters, Rachel, (Mrs. James Blackburn) Gore Bay; Nellie, (Mrs. Fred Carlson), Massey; two brothers, Frank, Tofield, Alberta; and Nelson, Clute, Ontario; also thirteen grandchildren and four great children.
The funeral service was held in the United Church, Gordon, Ontario on Wednesday, July 3rd, at 2 p.m. The service was conducted by Rev. C.A.K. Cockburn with Mrs. Carl Slomke at the organ.
Interment was made in the Gordon Cemetery, with A.J. Turner, as funeral director.
The pallbearers were: Messrs. Ted Strain, Carl Slomke, Cecil Wismer, Wm. Johnson, Ray Johnston and Clayton Sloss.
