Residence: 1673 Samuel Wright and family were among the first white settlers to find home at Northfield ( then called Squakeag). Killed there in 1672 by Indians ; settlement abandoned shortly afterward
Note: In first settlement of Northfield in 1672 and killed during a raid by Indians. After Major Treat evacuated and left Northfield, Sep 6, the Indians destroyed this small village. This was the second place in Hampshire County that was laid waste. The eight men slain at Northfield , Sep 2, included Sgt Samuel Wright ( the oldest one) , Ebenezer Parsons, The settlement was abandoned shortly afterwards when a relief party led by Capt Beers was ambushed. The Northfield settlers were suddenly assaulted by a mixed band of Pocumack and Nashaway Indians led by Monoco. Eight English were killed. The settlers rushed from their homes and fields to the stockade watching as their homes went up in flames
