The following remarks were written by daughter Winnie on 18 /5/1947 about Mother who desired that someone else should w rite "remarks" about her.
Mother is a true Quinney type known on this side of the Wor ld. As a girl in her teens, she was general handyman, on h er Mother's large farm - The Quinney homestead, later owne d by Thomas L Quinney - whilst her brothers were away fro m home working at their sawmill. Mother married when she w as 20 years old and helped Father to clear the rough virgi n bush covered section several hundred acres of lan d which Father had bought, on which to make his home . Lived in true pioneer style until said home was built . She was very capable and efficient at all she did includ ing farm work of all kinds, boot and shoe repairs, dressmak ing and tailoring (men's and boy's suits and overcoats), ga rdening, knitting fancywork, crocheting, painting, cookin g and sketching, (expertly) sawmill engine driving, drivin g horse and express-loaded with firewood and filling railwa y trucks at Railway station with it, logging trees (which s he helped to fell) to the mill. Excellent housekeeping i n every way. Countless nights sitting until 3-4am mendin g worn clothing (during 'dole' days) until it was hard to f ind the original garment. Put her heart and soul into ever ything she undertook so it is no wonder her health gave ou t under the strain of being Best Mother in the World. Ad d to the above accomplishments that of being 'Home Doctor a nd Nurse' for she reared 4 very delicate babes to healthy m en and womanhood after doctors had left us to die. Melvi n had curvature of the spine. Reg was very badly rupture d Mother made and patented an appliance specially sui table for his type of rupture, yet neglected herself sadly . Ira had bronchial asthma and Winnie a double leaking val ve of the heart.
