JOHN RODMAN PAUL (Elizabeth, John, Thomas, John, John, John), b. at Philadelphia, Jan. 24, 1802; graduated the first honor of his class from the University of Pennsylvania, 1820; studied medicine under Dr. Joseph Parrish, and received his degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, 1823. For nearly three years (1823-1826) he traveled and studied his profession in Europe. On Oct. 6, 1828, he married Elizabeth Duffield Neill (b. 1809; d. Jan. 18, 1866), dau. of Henry Neill, M. D., of Philadelphia, and Martha Rutter Duffield. Having retired from the active practice of his profession in 1844, Dr. Paul became connected with the management of many important financial and philanthropic institutions of Philadelphia. He was for forty years Treasurer of the College of Physicians; was a director or Trustee of the Wills Hospital for Eye Diseases, the University of Pennsylvania, the  Philadelphia Savings Fund, the Philadelphia Contributionship for Insurance, and the Bank of Commerce. He was also an inspector of the County Prison, and during early life (1844) served a term in the City Councils, acting as chairman of the Committee having in charge the erection of Girard College. He d. Oct. 13, 1877.

1828. James Marshal Paul, b. Sept. 11, 1840; d. May 19, 1878. B. A. Williams College; was admitted to the Philadelphia Bar, removed to Colorado, and served as Commissioner of that State to the Centennial Exhibition at Philadelphia; was also a member of the Territorial Legislature of Colorado.
