Note: Reita Ann (Paulsen) Romei, age 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009, in Edmonds, WA. She was born in Portland, Oregon on September 21, 1928 to Warner Paulsen and Leona Silcox. She was a graduate of Holy Names Acadamy and attended Seattle University. Reita married Carl Francis Romei in 1951 and they enjoyed 58 years of happiness together.
From a very young age, Reita had a great love for music and singing. She participated in many musical activities at Seattle University. She loved opera and classical music. Reita was very devoted to her faith; one of her great loves was singing in the Holy Rosary Church choir. She loved playing cards with her friends and grandchildren, working in her garden, and collecting and selling antiques. She owned two antique stores and specialized in estate sales, a business in which she was very happy and successful. Reita was a marvelous cook. She adored raising her three children and committed her life to her family and friends. In 2004, Reita was diagnosed with cancer. She fought through many a treatment including a brain tumor. Always a fighter, until the end, she continued to battle cancer and Parkinson's disease. Through it all, Reita remained strong and optimistic.
Reita is survived by her husband, Carl; sons, Christopher Romei (Carrie Merryman) and Stefan (Susan) Romei; daughter, Robin (John) Sloate; brother, Tom Paulsen; grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a large extended family and countless friends.
Reita was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her.
A visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 5th Avenue S, Edmonds. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 25, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Church, 630 7th Avenue N, Edmonds. A reception is immediately following the Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary, followed by the Committal at Calvary Cemetery, 5041 35th Avenue NE, Seattle. Please share memories with the family at
