    Was a CSA (Confederate States of America) Vet. Co B, 37 Batt, Va Cav. After the war he moved to Ga. He died of complication of old age. He prayed to live to be 100 years old, but because of complications and blindness he did not reach his goal. H.J. Brown passed away at the home of his daughter , Mrs Sallie Scott, near Plainville, Ga., after several years of declining health. He was a native of Pickens Co, SC, but for many years made his home in Ga. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Brown. He was 95 years of age. His wife preceded him to the grave many years. Funeral services were held Tue, Oct 29, 1940 near Plainville, Ga.

    He enlisted in the Confederate Service Sept 1862. Served as a Confederate soldier til captured by the Federals near Apomatox C H Va, Apr 6, 1865. Carried to Point lookout, Maryland and held as prisoner of war until Jun 23, 1965, when released on Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America and Parole of Honor. In the early 1900's, he filed for and received a pension from the state of Ga. Affidavits and Filing statements are of public record.

    The following statement by H J Brown, Jan 13, 1920, supports many assumptions and facts about this family ancestory:

    My grandfather was Lewis Brown. Born and raised in Ireland. Emigrated to United States and settled in SC. Maried Miss Julia Tatum of French and German parentage. Samuel Brown, son of Lewis and Julia (Tatum) Brown was my father. My father married Miss Mary Breazeale. Her father and mother both were natives of Wales til setting up their citizenship in America. My Grandfather Breazeale was in the Revolution War. My Grandmother Breazeale before her marriage was Miss Sarah Bradshaw of Wales.
