*** from letter of Erich Bucher to Charles Bucher, Sr - June 21, 1982
    Dear Mr. Bucher
Mrs Ursula Gutlewd has asked me in March of this year to help you as much as possible with the research about your ancestors. A longer illness caused some delay, so that it is only possible today to tell you the minimal results.
I only found a few data about Johann Josef Bucher (a photo copy is enclosed).
Here in Mudau there still live a Anna Samann, nee bucher, besides my brother Throdor Bucher, and myself. Johann Valentin Bucher and his wife Ursula, nee Pfaff, were our common great-great-grandparents (see enclosed photocopy)
While in the line of Anna Samann you find farmers all the time, in our line you find mostly craftsman. In 1945 I took over my father's locksmith's shop, being a master locksmith myself. In 1948 I handed over that shop to my brother Theodor Bucher, because my fellow citizens from Mudau elected me their mayor. I held this office for 32 years and retired in 1979. The locksmith's shop is still in the hands of my brother who is 6 years younger than me. The widow Samann's farm was taken over by her sone, alfred Samann. My brother has three sons and four daughters, while my family consists of three daughters and one son.
So the Buchers have not died out.
In your documents I found the name Aichner. We knew that we were remotely related to the Aichners who live in nearby Buchen. Out of this line there is an arroney in the U.S.A who to my knowledge is also involved in ancestry research. He has the following address: Mr Charles Aichener, 29 Crocker Street, Rockville Center, N.Y. 11570
I hope that with these few data I was able to help you at least a little with your research about your ancesty
    With homy regards Yours

e-mail from Charles Bucher, Jr 8/7/02 1:08 AM It turns out that some years ago my Dad had a friend from Germany who was going back there, back in 1982. I think my Dad had some information that his relatives had emmigrated from Mudau, Germany and so this friend went there to visit and actually was able to find some people named Bucher who still lived there. Our friend was able to get Mr. Erich Bucher to write a letter to my Dad, and also to outline some family genealogy, tracing back to one Johan Valentine Bucher, born in Mudau Aug 17, 1805.
