Frances lived but thirteen years after her marriage. During this short time, responsibilities fell rapidly upon her. She was certainly not over eighteen years old at the time of her marriage - perhaps a year or two less - but two years after her marriage her first child was born. At the same time, the death of her mother-in-law threw upon her shoulders the duties of mistress of Warner Hall. Although it was not until five years later that her husband inherited the estate from his father, she thus became the lady of this large Virginia estate when less than twenty years of age. Seven (sic) children were born to her during her short married life. She died soon after the birth of her youngest child and namesake, who survived her. She was the mother of all the children born to Col. John Lewis III.
