    «/b» EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Anthony W. "Tony" McDermott, 66, of 7297 N. Menominee Road, East Dubuque, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nativity BVM Church, Menominee, with his brother, the Rev. Joseph McDermott, SVD, and the Rev. Ted Lewandowski co-officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 787 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7976, both of East Dubuque. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m. The members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post 787 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7976 will meet at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    Mr. McDermott worked at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring on May 31, 1989. He also farmed with his son until his death.

    He was born on Jan. 16, 1935, near Bankston, Iowa, son of Ambrose I. and Ruth Ann (Kennedy) McDermott. He married Madeline D. Ahern on Feb. 26, 1957, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque.

    He was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

    He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 94, the John Deere Retirees, the VFW Post 7976, and was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 787. He was also a past commander for Jo Daviees County and a member of the Past Commanders Club of District 13. Tony also served as 13th District Insurance Chairman.

    A very important event in Tony's life was when he became associated with the "Legion of Mary" at St. Patrick's Parish, Dubuque. He was a member of the committee on Evangelization and the First Pastoral Synod of the Diocese of Rockford. He was a lay consultant for many years and was appointed a Eucharistic Minister by the Most Rev. Arthur J. O'Neill, Bishop of Rockford, on Sept. 15, 1983.

    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting John Deere Tractors.

    Surviving are his wife, Madeline D. (Ahern) McDermott; nine children, Pamela McDermott (fianc Bob Bartels), of Monroe, Wis., Ronald A. (Judy) McDermott, of Rockford, Tammy (Jim) Goken, of Apple River, Linda (Jay) Peacock, of Dubuque, Debbie Brehm, of Cuba City, Wis., John F. McDermott (friend, Ginny Hill), of Savannah, Ga., Shawn J. (Jenny) McDermott, of East Dubuque, Phil A. (Meggan) McDermott, of Freeport, and Erin C. McDermott, at home; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Joan (Jim) Ernst, of Bellevue, Iowa, and Bea (Dick) Soens, of Dubuque; six brothers, Rev. Joseph McDermott, SVD, of Divine Word Seminary, Epworth, Iowa, Patrick (Patricia) McDermott and Michael McDermott, both of Epworth, Tom (Peggy) McDermott, of Dubuque, Linus (Shirley) McDermott, of Cascade, Iowa, and Camillus (Maureen) McDermott, of St. Louis; and two brothers-in-law, David Raab, of Bernard, Iowa, and Donald Kramer, of Spring Grove.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Raab and Helen Ann Kramer; a brother, Jerome McDermott; and a sister-in-law, Lois McDermott.

    An Anthony W. "Tony" McDermott Memorial Fund has been established.
