William of Scotland married 5 Sept. 1186 at Woodstock Palace* in Oxfordshire:
Ermengarde de Beaumont
She was born c.1170)
Ermendgarde was a daughter of Richard I de Beaumont, Viscount of Maine and Lucie d’Laigle. Richard‘s mother was Constance FitzRoy, an illegitimate daughter of King Henry I. (all were our ancestors - see More-Hastings file MH1F-5)
Edinburgh Castle in Scotland was Ermengarde’s dowry at her marriage.
*Woodstock Palace was famous in history with its connection to many famous royal persons - King Henry II kept his famous mistress ‘Fair Rosamund” de Clare here and the future Queen Elizabeth I, as a girl, was imprisoned here in the 16th century.
He was the younger son of # 3 (Robert de Brus II).
William de Brus, 3rd Lord Annandale
He was born c.1158 and died on July 16, in either 1211 or 1212 - possibly before 26 June 1215.
He was of Hartlepool in County Durham.
He succeeded his father when the latter died in 1196.
He held the English manors of Helt and Haltwhistle in Northumberland.
Very little is known of his activities. He made a few appearances in the English government records and witnessed a charter of King William of Scotland.
It was recorded that in 1201 he had charters for a market and fair, granted by King John to William de Brus.
He married (as her 1st husband):
Christina le Stewart
also Christian or Cristina
she was known as Christina ‘filia Walter’.
She was a daughter of Walter fitz Alan, Steward of Scotland by Eschina of Huntlaw.
It was recorded on 11 Nov. 1218 that her dower included a third of a manor of Hartlepool in County Durham.
They had two sons, Robert de Brus IV (his successor) and William and daughter Euphemia
Christina married (2nd) Patrick I, Earl of Dunbar (d.1232). He was a 13th century Anglo-Scottish noble and was the eldest son of Waltheof, Earl of Dunbar.
Patrick was one of most important magnates to Kings William and Alexander II of Scotland, frequently witnessing their charters and traveling in their entourages whenever they went to the south of England to perform homage to the King of England.
