OTHER POSSIBLE PARENTS ARE SHOWN BELOW BUT THIS INDIVIDUAL IS NOT SHOWN AS A CHILD ON THE FOLLOWING POSSIBLE PARENTS' FAMILY PAGES, TO DO SO WOULD BE CONSIDERED ERRORS BY THIS PROGRAM. EVEN THOUGH THESE LAST POSSIBLE PARENTS MAY BE THE CORRECT ONES, SHOWING MORE THAN ONE SET OF PARENTS COULD CAUSE MY "FAMILY TREE" PROGRAM TO MALFUNCTION.

OTHER SOURCES SAY HIS FATHER WAS BALDWIN (NOTES) FITZGILBERT OF (L) MEULES AND HIS MOTHER WAS EITHER EMMA ALBREDA (NOTES) IRVY OR (L) DE IVRY. OR ALBREDA (NOTES) (L) D' AVRANCHES TWO OF BALDWIN'S WIVES.

ALSO, SOME SOURCES SAY THE WOMAN WHO MARRIED RICHARD EARL OF DEVON (NOTES) (L) DE REVIERS AND WAS THE MOTHER OF BALDWIN (NOTES) DEVON DE REVIERS (L) DE RIVERS WAS ADELISE ADELINE (NOTES) PEVEREL (L) DE PEVERELL.

OTHER SOURCES SAY THE WIFE OF RICHARD AND MOTHER OR BALDWIN WAS ADELIZA ODDONA ADELINE (NOTES) (L) DE POITOU (THE MOTHER OF THE FIRST ADELISE ABOVE).

I SHOW THE FIRST ADELISE AS THE WIFE AND MOTHER HERE BUT I MAY BE WRONG.

Crispin 'The Falaise Roll' (1938):85 'RICHARD DE VERNON. The lords of Vernon were of the house of Reviers or Redvers, and their castle of Vernon was located in the arrondeissement of Evreus, which was very strong and celebrated in the 11th and 12th centuries. Roger was baron of Vernon c. 1030, at which time his daughter, Blithildis, was married, who, in 1082, granted to Holy Trinity at Caen the lands at Vernon, which had been given to her by her father. This grant was made with the consent of her nephew, William, then lord of Vernon.

This William had recovered Vernon, formerly granted by duke William c. 1040, to count Guy of Burgundy, of which he was the seignior between 1050 and 1052, and from whom descended the barons of Vernon, who held sixty-one knights' fees. M. Le Prevost says it was Richard, William's eldest son and heir, to whom duke William gave Vernon in 1050, and that he accompanied the duke to the conquest of England. However this may be, Richard certainly possessed it later when he was head of the family. He and Walter, sons of William, appear in Cheshire in 1086 (Domesday), where the former held sixteen lordships... recorded to be at the conquest, and Richard in 1074 confirmed at Vernon a charter of his uncle Hugh, to the abbey of Jumieges. He was one of the palatine barons of Hugh Lupus and 'had a castle at Shipbrook on the Wever, which commanded its passes.'

Son of William de Redvers and de Vernon; father of Baldwin de Redvers I. D. 1106. Founded and richly endowed the abbey of Montebourg in 1080. Nephew of William Fitz Osberne, whose son, Roger de Breteuil, he succeeded in the possession of the isle of Wight. He subscribed to a charter of the abbaye-aux- Dames in Caen in 1082 and was one of the chief counsellors and champions of Prince Henry during his conflicts with his bros., William Rufus and Duke Robert Courteheuse. On his ascension to the throne, Henry magnificently rewarded Richard. He received the castle and honour of Plympton and Tiverton in Devonshire, with the gift of the "Tertium Denarum" -- third penny-- of the please, by which he became earl of that county. M. Adeliza Pevrel and had three sons: Baldwin, earl of Devon; William surnamed de Vernon; and Robert of St-Mary's Church, Devon; also one dau., Hadewise, Countess of Lincoln. [Falaise Roll, Table VII, p. 83-4]

The Baldwin given here did, according to Burke, have a son Richard de Redvers by his wife Albreda de Goz...

Burke 'Gen. Hist...Dormant, Abeyant...Peers...' p 139-40: 'Gilbert, Earl of Brion, who had two sons, Richard, ancestor of the house of Clare, and Baldwyn de Brionis, who for the distinguished part he had in the Conquest, obtained from King William the Barny of Okehampton, the custody of the co. of Devon, and the government of the castle of Exeter in fee. He m. Albreda, dau of Richard, surnamed Goz, Count of Avranche, and had with other issue, I. Richard, surnamed De Redvers. II. Robert, governor of Brione. III. Emma...'
