    TORBOCK, Edward, of Torbock Hall, in the parish of Huyton, against who se name Lord Burghley has placed a + , was the representative of an an cient and knightly family. He was the second son of Thomas Torbock, b y Eliz., d. of Wm. More, of Bank Hall, and succeeded to the estate upo n the death of his brother William, who had only two daughters by his wife, Cath., d. of Sir Thos. Gerard, of Bryn. Edward Torbock mar. Doro ., d. of Sir George Cotton, of Combermere, co. Chester, and had two so ns and a daughter. He was under suspicion of adhering to the old Churc h in 1584, and in the 1590 "Vewe" he appeared in the list of justices who were "more usuall comers to the church, but not communicants."
    He died in 1608. His son and successor, Sir Edward Torbock, was knight ed by James I, at Whitehall, Nov. I, 1606, and mar. Margt. d. & h. of Sir William Norreys, of Speke Hall, by whom he had two sons Edward an d George. Sir Edward and his sons joined in the sale of the Torbock es tate, which is said to have been ruined through gaming.
