    Name: Gusora "Peggy" LINDSEY
    Sex: F
Birth: 11 JUN 1908 in Comanche, Comanche Co, Texas
Death: 27 FEB 1971 in Houston, Texas
    Note:

Jack B. Lindsey, NM - Gusora (Peggy) Lindsay Freeman, b. 6-ll-08 in
Comanche, Tx., d. 2-27-71, Houston, Tx., twin sistor to Victorio (Victor
T.). Aunt Gusora was a raven haired beauty we all adored. She was soft
spoken, tender hearted, funny, irreverant, and a doting mother who
treated each of us as her own. Although she lived in Houston and we in
Southeastern New Mexico, she managed to see us once a year for a week or
two. She and Dad were as close as anyone could be barring siamese twins.
Their love for each other was absolute from the day they were born until
she died in l971. Dad was never the same and went downhill from that time
    on.

When Emma died, Jackson had no way to raise Gusora in the wild oil towns
he favored. Also, Jackson married a harridan who had no use for his
kids. Gusora spent her teen years in an orphanage run by the Salvation
Army which Gusora described as a convent where she spent her days in
school and her free time playing in the uniformed Salvation Army band
soliciting donations. She was allowed to take the train to see her family
whereever they might be in the summer. She grew up to be a beautiful,
self-sufficient lady, somewhat prone to hysteria if she lost patience. I
never saw her that whe wasn't chain smoking, so in looking back I realise
she was tightly wired but she carried herself well and made the most of
life even if it was through a pall of smoke. She had a regal air about
her as she sailed in and out of our lives like a clipper ship under full
canvas. She held various jobs in Houston until her early twenties when
she met and married a big handsome man named Richard Richarson. He
thought he was way too cute for just one woman, so Gusora had hell living
with him because of his infidelity. She divorced him just before the war
started, and along with Hattie worked in defense plants in the Houston
area. She married Woodrow Freeman, a municipal bus driver, and the two
enjoyed a loving, stable relationship. Their first child was Vicky Rae,
born during the war. She was a sweet but sickly little girl with kidney
problems. She died when she was about six, and thus broke Gusora's
heart. For years she would talk about Vicky Rae and cry. We would try
to steer her away from the subject, because we always knew where the
conversation was going with Gusora in tears. She had another little girl,
Peggy Ann, as adorable as her mother and the light of Gusora's and
Woody's lives. She lives in the Houston area, is married to a big
dependable fellow named Zukero, and has several growing and grown kids.

I will always love Aunt Gusora.
