DEATH OF CAPTAIN DASHWOOD, R.N. We have to record the death of another old and respected colonist. We refer to Captain G. F. Dashwood, R,N., who died at Norwood on Tuesday, March 15, at the advanced age of seventy-five. The deceased gentleman arrived in the colony in the ship Orissa, in the year 1841, and in the following year he was appointed a Magistrate of the province. On June 15, 1843, he was nominated an official member of the Legislative Council by the Crown, and held this position until July of the following year, when he resigned his seat. On April 28, 1817, he was appointed Acting-Commissioner of Police and Police Magistrate; and two years afterwards made a Special Magistrate for Port Adelaide. In 1850 he again held the position of Police Commissioner for a short time. In 1852 he was appointed Collector of Customs in succession to Mr. (now Sir) R. R. Torrens, which office he held until July, 1858, when he received the position of Emigration Agent in Great Britain. Early in 1875 he was appointed Stipendiary Magistrate for Port Adelaide and Edithburgh, and held this till recently. The deceased has left a family, including Mr. Dashwood, of the firm of Bundey, Dashwood, & Hawker. Mr. C. H. T. Connor is a son-in-law.
