    John "Jack" Skelly was a resident of Bridgewater for 84 years. John is believed to be the last of the pioneers who came to this section of McCook County in a covered wagon.
    John Skelly was born at Bufton, Iowa, May 10, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Skelly. At the age of six, he, with his family, came to Nation, Dakota Territory, via covered wagon and filed a homestead northeast of there.
    He married Alice Heiberger Sept 6, 1905. They resided on the parental homestead until 1915, when they moved to Bridgewater. He had a drayline in the city.
    Mr. Skelly passed away May 22. Mr. and Mrs. Skelly were the parents of two sons, Francis and Raymond, and a daughter, Gertrude Schoeberl.
