    John Schindler was born of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Schindler, Sr., April 15, 1833 in Bavaria, Germany. He came to America with his parents in 1842. The family resided at Buffalo, New York two years and another two years at St. Louis, Missouri. In 1846 they came to Iowa. In 1856 John Schindler married Elizabeth Christoph at New Vienna, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Christoph and was born in Bavaria in 1835. They lived on a farm north of Dyersville until they retired to their residence in East Dyersville.
    Their children were: John, Theresa (Mrs. Henry Meyer), Mary (Mrs. Clem Meyer), Elizabeth (Mrs. Bierner), Valentine, Anton, Theodore, and Henry. Mr. Schindler died March 29, 1913 and his wife on February 14, 1908.
