Ludvig Marinus Biorn, now deceased, was born in Moss, Norway, September7, 1835. His father was minister in the state c hurch of Norway, and someof his ancestors held high military and ecclesiastical postions inSlesvig. In 1879 he removed to Goodhue County, tothe congrgation s of Land and Minneola. The year before the crops of theNorthwest were a failure, and Goodhue, with the rest of the co unties ofthis section, were suffering from that failure. With his parishioners,he set to wrok with a will, enlarging h is congregations, establshingschools, forming missions and other societies in connection witht thechurch. He taught th e young and the old, visited the sick, assisted thepoor, and buried the dead. The North, in 1893, said: "ReverandBiorn has a frank, honest, prepossessing face. He is a thoroughbredgentleman , a popular preacher, an able writer, and last but not least, there is a vein of true poetry in his psychical makeup, wh ich has foundexpression in a number of poems, two or three of which are gems of theirkind." Reverend Biorn died June 1 4, 1908 and a grave in Land's churchcemetery marks the resting place of his body, but his life still lives, and will con tinue to live as long as those who knew him live. The resultof his labor will live much longer. He was first marrie d to BoletteFleisher who died in September 1881. In 1884 he married MathildaJohnson, of Wittenburg, Wis. Excerpt from end of Ludvig's family history letter to his son (see Niels Andreas and Christian Ludwig for other excerpt s):
"It was good to hear from you. I think often of you in this cold, sharpwinter, how often you must venture out both nig ht and day and I rememberyou always in my evening devotions. Greet your little beautiful wifefrom us all. Herman was h ere with his wife a few days at Christmas time.Thina was so disgusted with them because they were so loving. It was as though there was no one else present but Frieda and her man. She needsto realize that it will turn out all right afte r the first flush ofmarriage is over. Let us hear from you now and then. Yours, L.M. Biorn"
